The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof; The world and they that dwell therein.
Psalms 24:1 

As a tenant, man arrives upon earth. He is allowed to take possession and cultivate it to his benefit during his short stay. When his stay has ended, he leaves everything for the next man to possess and occupy.

But the earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord God who created it, and he alone is able to do with it as he pleases.
